Snapshot PowerPoint Project & Citations
SPARTANS,
Overall you guys are doing a great job in the library. Although the research assignment is relatively easy, please do not underestimate it because that is when you will needlessly lose points. There are a few very basic things that I have seen in your projects so far that are cause for concern because they will cost you points if not done correctly:
1) Wrong fonts
2) Wrong order of slides
3) Putting words on the picture slide (DO NOT DO THIS)
4) Incorrect source citations
Three things that I want you to get from this assignment, besides the information, are: following directions, further developing research skills, and citing sources properly. Please NOTE that in any citation, the second line and any others that may follow the first should be indented. (The formatting for the blog does not show this properly for some reason.)
I'm not sure how much clearer I can be about these directions. If you have forgotten, please remember now.
Here are some citation tips from Landmark College (on the resources handout I gave you last semester!) that Zach Began and Kelsey Stafford pointed out:

WEB PAGES
Basic Format for a Web Page
- Author, Institution, Company, or Organization Responsible for the Web site (if available). (Year, Month Day web site was last updated). Title or description of page. Retrieved Month Day, Year you visited the web site, from Name of site: URL (address of web site)
- Author: Sometimes the person or group responsible for the web page is hard to determine, but it’s important that you figure it out. Check the top and bottom of the web page. Then check the top and bottom of the home page. Then look for a link like “About.” A library staff person would be happy to help you discover who the author is.
- Date last updated: Check the beginning and end of the web page for this date. If no date is listed, write “(n.d.)” for “no date.”
- URL: IMPORTANT: You don’t need to cite each page you use from the same web site - just cite the main page that all of your web pages have in common.
IMAGES
Basic Format for an Electronic Image
- Author (Role of Author). (Year image was created). Title of work [Type of work], Retrieved Month Day, Year, from Name of site: URL (address of web site)
Basic Format for an Electronic Image (No Author)
- Title of work [Type of work]. (Year image was created). Retrieved Month Day, Year, from Name of site: URL (address of web site)
Basic Format for an Electronic Image (No Author, No Title, No Date)
Many images found on the Web are of this category, but you should still look for this missing information: try clicking on the image, and/or looking at the bottom of the image.

Option 5 Questions: UPDATE
SPARTANS,
Copy editor extraordinaire Taimi Jacobson has spotlighted my proclivity for errors and discovered that Number 11 in the Option 5 questions contains a mistake. Number 11 should read, "Explain Woodrow Wilson's Moral Diplomacy."
Also: I wish you all a happy new year. I hope that 2009 will be a year of learning, positive growth, and fun for all of you.

Additional Research Opportunities, Option 5, PHI Research
Season's Greetings, SPARTANS,
I hope all of you are enjoying your break. I am working on posting your "Additional Research Opportunities" (ARO), as well as your Option 5 Vocabulary on schoolandteacher.net within the next couple of days.
Remember that if you are planning on pursuing any of the ARO, you need to contact me first for approval. Additionally, any ARO must relate to the IB HOA curriculum, specifically Options 1-7 (up to the Great Depression, roughly 1929-1939). If you visit a museum, you must save and include your admission ticket. If you do not follow these directions, you risk not earning any credit for your work. I explained all of these requirements when I introduced this assignment, but I want to make sure you remember them.
If you did not get the chance to submit to me your ONE Practice Historical Investigation (PHI) Plan of Investigation/research question, please do so as soon as we return from break, or email me over break. I will do my best to respond as promptly as I can. You should be doing research over break a bit, as well. Remember, the next DEADLINE is January 13.
Pace yourself on your work, and enjoy your time off from school.
Happy holidays,
Mr. Todd

Weekend HW and Cam Library meeting
SPARTANS:
Remember that your homework for the weekend is to familiarize yourself with Chapters 23 and 24 in The American Pageant. I do not expect you to read every word, but know the subjects of the chapters and sections.
Also, in review: we are meeting at the Camarillo Public Library at or before 3pm today, 7 December. The library is near the hospital and police station in Camarillo, on the end of Las Posas where is loops around near Lewis Road.
Here is a website: http://www.vencolibrary.org/
Click on "Camarillo Library" then scroll all the way down to the "Directions" section for a map.
We will meet in the community room, inside the double brown doors inside the library. There should be a sign. We are meeting with Ms. Alyson Kaye.
See you there (or on Monday),
Mr. Todd
